Diwali is generally a great time for Bollywood. However,
not every filmmaker is lucky to crack the Diwali bonanza! You know we have
a herd mentality out here! Every producer and actor feels that he can become
the talk-of-the-town if he puts his celluloid version on display around this
time of the year. If wishes were horses...
History has had even some big canvas movies falling by
the wayside while dangerous firecrackers whizzed past you. Expectations have
bitten dust and producers have torn their hair out. Exhibitors have fallen off
from their chairs because they expected those movies to run simply because they
were releasing them around the Festival of Lights. Let's go down memory lane
and see whose hopes were shattered when they queued up even with blessings from
every quarter
Action Replayy (2010)
Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came back
together on-screen after almost 7 years, but that too couldn't save this time
travel drama from bombing at the BO. Vipul Amrutlal Shah had given 3
blockbusters with Akki before this, but sadly this one didn't make the
audiences laugh. Cropper!
Blue & Main Aur Mrs Khanna (2009)
Akshay Kumar's Blue was made with a budget of ₹100 crore-
a feat that wasn't quite common at that time. But probably, that's one of
the reasons why the movie didn't end up making any profit. At the same time,
Main Aur Mrs Khanna was promoted as a Salman Khan film but when the audiences
went to see it, they were shocked to know that Salman had just a cameo and it
was more of a Sohail Khan film. Twin disasters!
Saawariya (2007)
Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor were making their big
Bollywood debut with a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie in 2009. What expectations!
But the film was panned by critics and masses alike.
Janemann (2006)
This Salman Khan-Akshay Kumar starrer was a cold
turkey.
Kyon Ki & Shaadi No. 1 (2005)
Salman Khan's Kyon Ki starring Kareena Kapoor as the
female lead and David Dhawan's Shaadi No. 1 starring Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan,
Zayed Khan, Sharman Joshi, Ayesha Takia, Esha Deol, Soha Ali Khan, Riya Sen,
Aarti Chhabria and Sophie Choudry- they both sank almost without a trace
